Background

Hello, my name is Glyn Carter.

When I finished school, I completed a carpentry and joinery apprenticeship and then a couple of years later I started my own building company.

I bought my first rental property in Middlesbrough in 2002, having been approached by a student, who was attending Teeside University. He needed accommodation for himself and three of his friends. I bought a suitable property and when they started University, the student told me that he had met other students who needed somewhere to live. Seeing the demand and the potential for properties in the area I purchased another six houses.

Meanwhile, my building company was growing and I was able to take on my first apprentice. My family and I wanted a new and larger family home, so I bought a three acre building plot on which we built our current home. The owner of one of the companies that supplied materials for our house, had just bought a building plot in the South-West area of France. He told me there were two plots of land left. We were interested in this new opportunity. We flew out to France to view the land. We bought both plots, and have had two villas built. We rent the villas as holiday lettings.

Using equity from the house we built, we were able to raise deposits and in a twelve month period, we bought over 25 properties in the Sunderland area.

My building company grew, and I now have a team of people who refurbish and maintain properties. We also have office staff who oversee and manage the day-to-day administration of the properties.

One of my son's teachers was getting married and was moving away. She wanted to rent out her property but needed someone to manage it for her, and so she approached me. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to expand, and as I had the ability to grow the business, I accepted.

I was then introduced to a couple living in London, who wanted to invest in rental properties in the North East. I sourced a number of properties for them, refurbished and found tenants for them. I now manage a growing number of properties for people who don't necessarily have the time or skill to manage the properties themselves. We provide a stress free solution for investors and a prompt efficient service to tenants in the properties we manage.
